Who are YES! Yakushima –

The co-founder of YES! Yakushima – Steve (the other co-founder being Helen) – moved to Yakushima in early 2011 and continues to live on the island with his family.  Steve has lived in Japan since 1999.  Prior to living in Japan, Steve lived in Kathmandu (Nepal) and was able to undertake numerous Himalayan treks & ascents
YES! Yakushima began operating in 2012 when there were few international visitors coming to Yakushima.  In the years since we began, the number of foreign visitors coming to Yakushima has risen dramatically.  YES! co-founder Helen left Yakushima in 2015 and now operates the Kumamoto English tour and information company – Explore Kumamoto.

YES! Yakushima have a small team of local guides as well as an extensive network of various water activity guides.

About Yakushima –
The island of Yakushima is off the beaten track, stunningly beautiful and one of the most un-spoilt and pristine environments you can visit in Japan. The natural beauty of Yakushima was recognized by UNESCO in 1993 and this is one destination in Japan that does not disappoint.  Visitors should ideally dedicate at least 2 full days for their visit to Yakushima, but no matter how many days on the island, you would still leave Yakushima claiming not to have spent enough time on the island!

What YES! do –

Aside from our recommended YES Tours, the other side of our business is to promote a range of local Yakushima services.  We are also able to create an activity / accommodation package for your trip to Yakushima so that you don`t have to waste valuable time during your visit.

YES! Yakushima offer a FREE  booking service for accommodation, vehicle rental & other equipment, water activities and other local services.YES! also aim to fully support our island and so by booking you hotel with YES! Yakushima instead of the usual international booking agents (who take their commission from the local hotel) then ALL of your booking fee enters our local economy.

Contact YES! and send your requirements.

A very popular service we offer for guests booking tours and / or accommodation with YES is our ferry ticket reservation service.  The ferry ticket reservation service is available if you book a YES Tour or book over 40,000 yen of services from the YES! Yakushima Services (eg hotel, car rental, activity etc).

Contact YES for more details.

Our website also has lots of information about Yakushima, how to get here and what you can do on the island.  Check out Yakushima maps to find various locations and get printable English maps of the local towns. Find the bus timetable in English on our Yakushima Links.

Check out our information on eating out, shopping and emergency services.

Finally, we really do encourage visitors to Yakushima to consider a YES tour as these tours reveal so much about our special island: its ecology, history and culture.  Visitors who “go it alone” miss out on so much and barely scratch the surface of our wonderful island.

Booking your YES tour will leave you in no doubt that you have experienced a very special island – see comments from previous guests on our Tripadvisor page.
